We know that you’ll be looking at these scores and comparing them to other attractions, so we hope this review helps you out in that aspect.Do you have some feedback about our review system? Contact Us Here to let us know what you think! Though, when in doubt, we tend to give slightly lower scores than our original “gut feelings” to account for this, and also give the attraction more room to improve over time.We also do our best to be fair and consistent across all of the haunts that we review. ![]() But, because all reviews with ratings are inherently subjective, this is nearly impossible to completely prevent. ![]() This is why we provide detailed explanations for each category… to help you better understand how and why we chose the score/s that we did.We do our best to not let feelings or emotions rule our judgement, while also viewing the attraction through the lens of the typical haunt-goer. Regardless, we do our best to remain true to our core values, which is to promote all haunted attractions!Perhaps the biggest thing to remember is: sometimes the score – in and of itself – doesn’t tell the whole story about an attraction’s merits. However, keep in mind there will always be minor differences between Teams, as we all have varying levels of experience. Scares and Special Effects in this range are usually considered “Family Friendly.”ģ to 4: “Below Average”We could see that a clear attempt was made, but most other professional attractions are doing a much better job at this.ġ to 2: “Poor”It appeared that very little time, thought or effort was contributed to this aspect.Ġ (Zero): “Non-Existent”No apparent effort was made to make this a significant contributor to the attraction.Īfterword:This rating system is standardized across all of The Scare Factor’s official haunt review teams. This is about the top end of what we’d call “Family Friendly.”ĥ: “Average / Fair”Compared to the competition, they weren’t the best, but definitely not the worst. However, we’ve seen this done much better at other places, or can detect areas where significant improvements can be made. Most attractions can learn from what these guys are doing.Ħ to 7: “Good”We could tell that a good effort was made. They had a good handle on it and, overall, they knew how to use it well. “10’s” are reserved for the best of the best those that we feel could not possibly improve on what they’re doing.ĩ: “Innovative and Groundbreaking”It rocked! Nearly everything seemed to go as planned and it was one of the best we’ve ever seen! These guys are leaders in the industry, and attractions like this are truly hard to come by.Ĩ: “Solid”A high score on our scale. All of our Teams use this as a reference for providing accurate ratings:ġ0: “Peak Performance”This score is treated as if it has a chastity belt on it. ![]() The following breakdown explains what these scores typically mean. UPDATE FOR 2022: Our former “Atmosphere” and “Theme” categories have now been combined and renamed “Immersion.” Our intent with this is to give more appropriate credit to attractions that have shown a clear focus on achieving and maintaining better customer experiences (both inside and outside the attractions) and developing creative storylines.Įach of the category scores in this review are calculated using a weighted average of several questions that we rate on a scale of 1 to 10.

It's easier to pick the one I didn't like as much. I think Homework is still my top as it just feels so wonderfully 90s in EVERY way. Speaking of endings, which was your favorite YYH ending? Well other than the actual last episode end credits. I also liked how opening even got dubbed. Hiei's is probably the weakest of the 4 but not anywhere close to bad outside some awkwardly delivered lines. Seriously try it, I don't know how his VA recorded like 100+episodes of that. It's actually really hard to imitate too. Kuwabara's voice is grating but so unique and right for his character that it becomes good. Actually YYH's dub is really impressive minus a few of the side characters like Yukina or whatever her name is. ![]() Him, Revy and Alucard are my personal holy trinity of dubs. He has one of the best dubs I've heard in anime. Yusuke vs the Doctor still wows me even today.Īlso my god Yusuke's dub is SO godlike. Once the rescue Yukina or whatever arc starts the animation gets much better generally, and some of the best animated parts still looks great. Thankfully that trend is dying saying YYH looks like shit: Only the first few arcs of YYH look especially dated. My god do I hate the the no noses crap lol. It's gotten better recently but at one point(around late 2000s I want to say) it felt like anime artist just stopped bothering with lighting period. Cel animation at its best just flows so beautifully(there's a reason gore looks better done with cels than with digital) and the 90s use of shading/lighting was generally better than much of the digital stuff you see these days. 1999 HXH, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho.ĭigital animation is at its apex right now and has come VERY far from the early 2000s, but I hear you loud and clear on this. The center console storage is awkward to open and is mostly behind your body, making it incredibly awkward to fully open it and then to place items into it Currently you have to put it in a cup holder, or open up compartments to put it somewhere and then you cannot easily access it. People would have a phone and/or some other small item. There is no visible accessible storage without having to open compartments which makes trying to put an item away or retrieve an item a real chore. The Glove box won’t stay open, why the heck would it be designed that way? You have two use two hands to hold it open while you try to grab something out of it with your other hand. The 2020 feels like it is heavier and higher from the ground, although apparently it weighs less. ![]() The 2012 handling was luxurious and smooth with very little body roll. In the 2020, under minimal breaking and turning, the body dives and rolls, this is especially The handling in the 2020 is not as tight as the 2012. I guess you can thank the EPA for this, but it is really ruining the smooth luxury experience. It is the opposite, the extra rumbling and shaking of the car as the engine goes from 0 rpm to 800 rpm and at the same time engages the transmission is very miserable.Īlso I've only had the car for 2 months now and two times it failed to auto start and I had to press the ON/OFF button twice to then get it to restart. Up when you take your foot off the brake pedal is not a smooth or luxurious experience. The feature were the car shuts its engine off when you are stopped and have your foot on the brake, and automatically starts the engine back In summary, apply the acceleration and deceleration issues together and that is what you experience in regular traffic, this car spends way to much time shifting up and down, and it isĮspecially a problem when you are slowing down and then speed up, it gets really confused, and behaves very badly jerking the car. There are two people driving this car - me and the transmission. Decelerating.when going about 12 mph, letting your foot off the gas and waiting 3 seconds, the car down shifts in such a pronounced way that it feels like the brakes are being pressed. Even if you were decelerating and then at 25mph press the gas pedal slightly, it will very abruptly downshift and delay applying acceleration and then almost seemingly to make up for the delay, really aggressively applies acceleration. At this speed, in moments you will be pressing the brake and then it will downshift 4 times, so 4 upshifts and 4 downshifts in 8 seconds, that makes for a miserableĮxperience. Each shift is noticeable in lack of smoothness and is entirely unnecessary. Accelerating. In regular drive mode, it shifts 4 times in 4 seconds going from a stop to less than 20 MPH like when leaving a parking space and justĭriving down the row. Furthermore, basic interior amenities and luxuries are missing in the 2020 model. I cannot say this about the 2020 Range Rover. I was very happy with my 20 Range Rover HSE vehicles, they were beautiful, and drove so smoothly in all 3 areas of acceleration, braking, and steering. Unfortunately, I seem to be getting more experience with their loaners (none of which have had a similar issue) than my vehicle. ![]() If it wasn't for this issue, I would give the 2019 RR 5 stars. The dealer has been great and I really couldn't say enough about their responsiveness which is very much in line or even exceeding expectations (which were high given the cost of the car). Will be noting to the dealer that another problem will result in initiating a Lemon Law suit. ![]() Car is going back to the dealer next week to see if the third time is a charm. Now the radio source randomly changes and the climate control (lower screen) seems to roll through random levels of working or not - I am happy that I bought this in the spring and consistent heat or A/C haven't been needed yet. Dealer picked up the car again and apparently, the lower screen was bad and needed to be replaced. Then the two knobs that control temp stopped working. A week later, the lower touch screen went totally blank. It apparently needed a software update - seems like that should have been on the pre-delivery check list. Dealer picked it up, gave me a loaner and took car to fix it. The electronics (entertainment and climate control) started malfunctioning the day I bought the car. The comic strip on the left from 1987 illustrates the layout constraints that Bill Watterson was required to work within for the first 6 years of the comic's syndication. The pressures of the battle over merchandising led to Watterson taking an extended break from May 5, 1991, to February 1, 1992, a move that was virtually unprecedented in the world of syndicated cartoonists. Having achieved his objective of creative control, Watterson's desire for privacy subsequently reasserted itself and he ceased all media interviews, relocated to New Mexico, and largely disappeared from public engagements, refusing to attend the ceremonies of any of the cartooning awards he won. By 1991, Watterson had achieved his goal of securing a new contract that granted him legal control over his creation and all future licensing arrangements. This dynamic played out in a long and emotionally draining battle between Watterson and his syndicate editors. Nevertheless, Watterson had leverage by threatening to simply walk away from the comic strip. Watterson's contract with the syndicate allowed the characters to be licensed without the creator's consent, as was standard at the time. Calvin and Hobbes has also won several more awards.Īs his creation grew in popularity, there was strong interest from the syndicate to merchandise the characters and expand into other forms of media. The Society awarded him the Humor Comic Strip Award for 1988. Calvin and Hobbes earned Watterson the Reuben Award from the National Cartoonists Society in the Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year category, first in 1986 and again in 1988. Watterson introduced all the major characters within the first three weeks and made no changes to the central cast over the strip's 10-year history.īy April 5, 1987, Watterson was featured in an article in the Los Angeles Times. ![]() Īlthough Calvin and Hobbes underwent continual artistic development and creative innovation over the period of syndication, the earliest strips demonstrated a remarkable consistency with the latest. Within a year of syndication, the strip was published in roughly 250 newspapers and proved to have international appeal with translation and wide circulation outside the United States. The first Calvin and Hobbes strip was published on Novem in 35 newspapers. Though United Feature ultimately rejected the new strip as lacking in marketing potential, Universal Press Syndicate took it up. United identified these characters as the strongest and encouraged Watterson to develop them as the center of their own strip. United Feature Syndicate finally responded positively to one strip called The Doghouse, which featured a side character (the main character's little brother) who had a stuffed tiger. He explored various strip ideas but all were rejected by the syndicates. Lee Salem, Watterson's editor at Universal, recalling his reaction after seeing Watterson's first submission Ĭalvin and Hobbes was conceived when Bill Watterson, while working in an advertising job he detested, began devoting his spare time to developing a newspaper comic for potential syndication. When my then-8-year-old son remarked, 'This is the Doonesbury for kids!' I suspected we had something unusual on our hands." "I thought it was perhaps too 'adult,' too literate. In 2010, reruns of the strip appeared in more than 50 countries, and nearly 45 million copies of the Calvin and Hobbes books had been sold worldwide. Īt the height of its popularity, Calvin and Hobbes was featured in over 2,400 newspapers worldwide. ![]() Though the series does not frequently mention specific political figures or contemporary events, it does explore broad issues like environmentalism, public education, and philosophical quandaries. Hobbes's dual nature is a defining motif for the strip: to Calvin, Hobbes is a living anthropomorphic tiger, while all the other characters see Hobbes as an inanimate stuffed toy. It also examines Calvin's relationships with his long-suffering parents and with his classmates, especially his neighbor Susie Derkins. Set in the contemporary suburban United States of the 1980s and 1990s, the strip depicts Calvin's frequent flights of fancy and friendship with Hobbes. Commonly cited as "the last great newspaper comic", Calvin and Hobbes has enjoyed broad and enduring popularity, influence, and academic and philosophical interest.Ĭalvin and Hobbes follows the humorous antics of the title characters: Calvin, a precocious, mischievous, and adventurous six-year-old boy and Hobbes, his sardonic stuffed tiger. ![]() During this same time, the city of Naples had grown enough to support the zoo without subsidy from the Tetzlaffs' Ohio operation. The continuing success was a tribute to both the family's commitment to Larry's vision as well as Cedar Point's faith in Nancy and her talents and hard work.Īs the landlocked Cedar Point grew into the top ranked theme park in the world, the canals around the island were filled in and the safari was eventually flanked by two roller coasters. ![]() Without hesitation, Nancy and her young sons were determined to continue his legacy and Cedar Point eagerly welcomed them back that spring. For decades, the Tetzlaffs ran both operations concurrently. Luckily, the Cedar Point operation was successful enough to be able to subsidize the Naples site. While the botanical garden provided a beautiful warm home for the animals, it was a financial challenge as Naples was still small and the attraction had run in the red since it opened in 1954. In 1969, they found their southern dream in Caribbean Gardens in Naples, Florida. Years of school presentations had honed the Tetzlaffs' presenting skills and year after year guests were entertained while being educated about animals and hearing that "conservation is the name of the game." Cedar Point afforded the Tetzlaffs a large audience often reaching over a million guests a season. Shows were frequent, often every hour on the hour interspersed with educational presentations on the half hour on the Safari Canyon lecture stage.Īlthough committed to their summer audience, the Tetzlaffs wanted a warm winter home so the animals could be outside all year long. Over the years, the cultural experience also included dancers and musicians from Africa. Over the years, midwesterners would get an up close look at larger animals like zebras, eland, lions, elephants, leopards, pythons, tigers, and even wolves. The secluded wooded area provided a lush jungle atmosphere for the animals. ![]() A true island, the animals had to be rafted across the first season. The summer went well and, in 1965, they opened Safari Island, the most authentic and extensive Jungle Larry attraction to that time opened. (This space is now the Snoopy Boutique located adjacent to the main arcade.) Cedar Point contacted Larry and Nancy and they created the Baby Animal Farm for where the Earthquake ride was slated to go. Founded in 1870, Cedar Point along the shore of Lake Erie in Sandusky, Ohio is the most visited seasonal amusement park in the United States. An open space on its main midway for the 1964 season opened up the next and longest theme park chapter for Larry and Nancy Jane. ![]() Designs vary, but in general, hands-free Bluetooth car kits are small devices with an audio cable and a USB cable. ![]() Hands-free kits usually have just one button (the Bluetooth pairing button), leaving the rest to your smartphone. Neither approach is better than the other, but think about which interface will work best for you and your car as you’re shopping for a kit. Most Bluetooth car kits fall into one of two categories: hands-free devices configured mostly on a smartphone, or physical interfaces that handle the most common tasks. ![]() A flexible microphone can be essential for making sure others can hear you, and most phones allow you to update equalizer audio settings to get the most out of any playback hardware. If you expect to spend an equal amount of time listening to music and making phone calls, we recommend getting a Bluetooth car kit that focuses on phone calls. Most have easy-to-use controls, such as a Mute button, for interacting with phone calls. These almost always require a constant power source (rather than batteries). You might be able to save some significant money.īluetooth car kits that focus on music aren’t very flashy, but they’re great for anyone who likes to “set it and forget it.” That said, audio-focused Bluetooth car kits often skimp on amenities designed for phone calls, such as external microphones or one-touch call buttons.īluetooth car kits that focus on phone calls often include better microphones that can be placed anywhere in the car. As you consider different models, think about your priorities. Most Bluetooth car kits support streaming both music and phone calls, but many models focus on one or the other. While this approach is the rarest – and certainly the bulkiest – it is wire-free and doesn’t require recharging. Perhaps better known as the “cigarette lighter receptacle,” every car has a unique port for delivering power, and some Bluetooth car kits interface directly with it. (Also, keep in mind that some battery-powered Bluetooth car kits also support USB charging.) If you don’t mind recharging your adapter once in a while, a battery-powered unit is the simplest option. If your auxiliary jack is only near a car power outlet, you can buy a USB adapter for it.īluetooth car kits that run on batteries are great for wire-free control, but all batteries eventually wear out. This approach is great, so long as your car has a USB port that’s near your auxiliary 3.5mm input jack (or you don’t mind stringing wires around your car). The most common way to power Bluetooth car kits is via USB. Bluetooth car kits are powered in one of three ways. As you shop for a kit, pay special attention to how each is powered to determine which approach is best for you. Powering bluetooth car kitsĮvery Bluetooth car kit needs power, and the option that will work best for you depends on the layout of your car and the location of the inputs. Many drivers buy dedicated Bluetooth audio devices to leave in the car so they don’t have to rely on their phones. ![]() (MIDDLE) Gaps caused by addition of adjacent areas. ![]() (TOP) Alternating positive and negative areas.
